Tracey Thompson

Tracey Thompson has managed the Event Hire at Taupō Hire for the past 20 years, helping people with weddings, sports events and parties. In January this year, she purchased the Event hire side of the business, now called GET SET EVENT HIRE and is loving the challenges and excitement of owning her own business.

Tracey and her husband Garth have 6 fantastic children between them. In her spare time she loves to read, exercise, eat great food, drink great wine and spend time with friends and family.

So why did she decide to embark on this journey?

Tracey says “I love a challenge and a wee bit of friendly competition, I like to keep fit and love dancing! I am super proud to support such a worthy cause as Life Education Trust, they do such a fantastic job in our community helping to teach children to make healthy lifestyle choices. I am really excited to be on this journey, I hope to have lots of fun, make new friends and help raise money and awareness for this fantastic charity.”

Hellmuth Hartung

Hellmuth Hartung was born and raised in Turangi. After leaving the district for 18 years, he and his family now call Taupō home again.

Hellmuth works in Community Development/Engagement at the Taupō District Council.

In his spare time he enjoys getting outdoors, socialising with family and friends as well as comedy shows, especially Dave Chappelle and Ricky Jervais.

Hellmuth is a self-declared ‘non-dancer,” so why is he getting involved in Dancing for Life Education in partnership with Penny Homes?

“I love the kaupapa and love Life Education Trust. It’s going to be a huge personal challenge in terms of the actual dancing/training. I feel kind of uncomfortable dancing in front of an audience, in fact I would rather wear the super hot Harold costume. But I’m looking forward to having some fun and competing!”

  • Teachers: Robin & Faye Morre

Faye and Robin Moore live in Kinloch and moved to the Taupō area four years ago to be closer to family. They teach Rock’n’Roll and have been dancing 50’s/60’s dance for over 30 years.

They didn't start R’n’R dancing until they were in their 40’s when this type of dance was very strong throughout NZ.

They have attended the NZ National Championships held at Labour weekend for the past 30 years as competitive dancers. When held in Christchurch they also organised the event with Robin taking the MC role for a number of events too! They have been dance instructors for much of the time they have been involved.

Faye and Robin say “Both our children were involved with dance when they were young and still dance today, now in their 40’s. Our son runs his own dance studio in Wellington with his dance partner.”

They are both looking forward to Dancing for Life Education in partnership with Penny Homes and are enjoying teaching their two couples - “Lots of laughs and fun already.”
